Bienvenue à Québec!
Bonjour à tout le monde ! Hello everyone !
Bienvenue à votre séjour éducatif à Québec! Welcome to your Summer Study Abroad in Québec City! My name is Kyle Patterson (picture above on the right), and I’ll be your Program Director during your 3-week stay. To give you a little information about myself, I’m a 3rd year Ph.D. student in the French department at the University of California, Davis, and have been teaching college students for two years. I intend to write my dissertation on language use and speech communities in Québec which hopefully demonstrates how passionate I am about French, language use, and Québec as both a city and a province! I’ve spent six weeks in Québec city as part of a French Language Immersion Program which were some of the best weeks of my life and inspired me to go to Graduate School to specialize in French Québec! I hope to inspire you as well as we venture into this beautiful, culturally vibrant, and historical Francophone city.
I was in a collegiate A Capella group for three years, an actor/thespian for another three years, and I played the trumpet in band for nearly five years. In my free time, I enjoy watching French films, playing tennis, arranging A Capella songs, hiking, and traveling! I can’t wait to meet all of you, learn about your passions, and hopefully incorporate your interests into the program. If you’d like to reach out to me, please don't hesitate! I love questions and want to make this as comfortable and exciting for you as my stay was here a few years ago. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and helping you create amazing memories in this unique city!
Kellie Hodson (picture above on the left), the instructor of our introductory French class as well as the photography elective, is a recent graduate of Ithaca College having earned her BFA in Film, Photography, and Visual Arts with a minor in Art History. During her junior year she traveled to Aix-en-Provence, France where she stayed with a host family and honed her French language skills. Following her study abroad experience, Kellie worked at the 70th Annual International Cannes Film Festival as a Photography Intern. She spent her last semester of college in Los Angeles where she also worked at CBS for their soap opera, The Bold and The Beautiful, as well as 20th Century Fox as an International Marketing Photo Intern. Kellie’s diverse background in French and Photography has prepared her for this next chapter in her life and is excited to share her knowledge with others.
This blog will serve as tool that keeps everyone up to date on what we're doing in the program, so be sure to come back often! See you soon!
